Installing the till app
One app, five platforms: Android, iOS, macOS, Windows and Linux. It is the same till on all of them — the same screens, the same offline behaviour, the same data.
Steps
-
Pick the device
An Android phone, tablet or purpose-built POS terminal; an iPhone or iPad; or a Mac, Windows or Linux computer at the counter. Staff can use different platforms in the same shop without anything being set up twice.
-
Android
Install the supplied package, allowing installation from your file manager if the device asks. Android 6 and newer are supported, including older stock POS terminals.
-
iOS
Install on the iPhone or iPad through the channel you were given. Note that iOS will not talk to a Bluetooth receipt printer that is not MFi-certified — check your printer before buying for iPad.
-
macOS, Windows and Linux
Run the desktop installer for your system. A desktop till is usually the better choice where the counter already has a screen, a keyboard and a USB printer.
-
Allow what it asks for
Bluetooth and USB for printers, the camera for barcode scanning, and storage for receipts. On macOS and Linux, the printer is reached through the system print queues, so it has to be added there first.
-
Open it
The app asks which server to connect to, then for your sign-in.
Good to know
- A slimmer Android build is available for low-memory devices.
- A desktop till and a phone till are equal — neither is a cut-down version of the other, and both keep working offline.
