Journal entries

Manual double-entry, for the few things ordinary trading does not cover — depreciation, accruals, an opening balance.

Steps

  1. Open it

Accounting → Journal Entries → New.

  2. Add the lines

Account, debit or credit, and a description on each line.

  3. Balance it

Debits must equal credits. MCPOS will not post an unbalanced entry.

  4. Post it

It appears in the general ledger and the trial balance straight away.

Good to know

  • You should not need journals for sales, purchases, refunds or expenses. Those post themselves. A journal for one of them usually means something was recorded in the wrong place.
  • Control accounts such as stock, receivables and payables are protected from casual manual entries so they keep agreeing with the documents behind them.
