Journal entries
Manual double-entry, for the few things ordinary trading does not cover — depreciation, accruals, an opening balance.
Steps
-
Open it
Accounting → Journal Entries → New.
-
Add the lines
Account, debit or credit, and a description on each line.
-
Balance it
Debits must equal credits. MCPOS will not post an unbalanced entry.
-
Post it
It appears in the general ledger and the trial balance straight away.
Good to know
- You should not need journals for sales, purchases, refunds or expenses. Those post themselves. A journal for one of them usually means something was recorded in the wrong place.
- Control accounts such as stock, receivables and payables are protected from casual manual entries so they keep agreeing with the documents behind them.
