Adding products

The product record drives the POS grid, the price, the tax, the stock count and the label. This is the screen you will spend the most time on.

Steps

  1. Open it

Catalog → Products, then Add Product.

  2. Name, SKU and barcode

The SKU is yours to choose and must be unique. The barcode is what the scanner reads — if the product already has one printed on it, use that.

  3. Category and unit

Pick the category it should appear under on the POS grid, and the unit it is sold in.

  4. Cost and selling price

Cost drives your profit reports and the value of your stock. Do not leave it at zero if you care about margin.

  5. Tax

Leave it on the business default unless this product is genuinely taxed differently.

  6. Stock settings

Opening quantity, reorder point, and whether this item is tracked at all. A service — a haircut, a delivery fee, a consultation — should be marked as a service and is never stocked.

  7. Photo

Shows on the POS grid, the catalogue and the online store. Staff find products by picture faster than by name.

  8. Save

It appears on the POS grid immediately, and on the till app after its next sync.

Good to know

  • To load many products at once, use Import Data instead of typing them in.
  • A service product must be marked as a service. If it is not, MCPOS will try to hold stock for it and your stock value will drift.
  • Changing a price does not rewrite past invoices. They keep the price they were sold at.
