Steps

  1. Start the return

Sales → Sales Returns → New, then find the original invoice.

  2. Choose the lines

Return all of it or part of it. You cannot return more than was sold.

  3. Decide about stock

Saleable goods go back into stock. Damaged goods should not — say so on the line.

  4. Choose the refund method

Cash, back to the original tender, store credit into the customer's wallet, or a credit note.

  5. Complete it

Stock, money and accounts all move together, and the customer gets a return document.

Good to know

  • If the customer still owes money on that invoice, the refund clears the outstanding balance first and only then pays out. This stops you handing back cash to someone who has not finished paying.
  • Loyalty points earned on the original sale are taken back in proportion.
  • Returns are excluded from sales totals in every report, so your sales figures do not double-count.
