Tax rates
Define your VAT or GST rates once, then decide where each applies. MCPOS resolves the right rate for you at the moment of sale.
Steps
-
Open it
Finance → Taxes.
-
Add a rate
Name it as it should print — "VAT 5%", "GST 18%". The printed name matters; customers and auditors read it.
-
Set a business default
The rate most of your products carry. It applies wherever nothing more specific is set.
-
Override on a product
Zero-rated or exempt lines carry their own rate on the product record.
-
Override on a customer
An exempt or export customer can carry a rate that beats the product's.
Good to know
- The order of precedence is customer, then product, then business default. The most specific one wins.
- If a sale shows tax you did not expect, check the customer first — it is the level people forget.
- Turning tax off in Business Details hides tax rather than setting it to zero. Zero-rating is a rate; not charging tax is a switch.
